Parish Clerk of Court

You should apply for a marriage license at your local clerk of court. If you've decided to apply in EBR; Applications must be made in person by either party applying for the license.  It is not necessary to have both parties present.

Requirements for a license

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age 

  • Certified Birth Certificates for both parties (copies are not accepted)

  • Valid Government Issued forms of identification (DL, State issued ID, Passport, etc.)

  • Judgment of Divorce if applicable

Time Constraints

Marriage Licenses obtained in East Baton Rouge Parish are valid only for ceremonies performed in Louisiana; however, applicants do not need to be Louisiana residents.

A 24-hour waiting period between the time of issuance of the Marriage License and the ceremony applies.  Marriage Licenses are valid for thirty (30) days from the date of issuance.
